Plovdiv in the top 3 of FT’s ranking for business destinations

Plovdiv ranked in the top 3 in Financial Times’ ranking for business destinations

Plovdiv is at the top for Best European Cities and Regions for doing business in the Financial Times annual rankings. The city is in the top 3 in the ranking of the prestigious business publication for Cities with Best FDI Strategy for 2022-2023.

FT’s business analysts compared 356 cities, grouped by population in five categories from large to micro cities. Applicants are ranked based on data collected in several categories: economic and demographic factors; economic potential; favorable environment for business development; connectivity; human resources and quality of life; cost efficiency, etc. An important factor in comparing the most promising investment destinations across Europe is the call for sustainability in the inevitable economic consequences of the pandemic.
Plovdiv is in the top 3 of small cities with best fdi strategy, sharing the top five with Doncaster, Derry and Middlesbrough from Great Britain and Braga, Portugal.

Plovdiv’s place among the most attractive cities for foreign direct investment reflects the rapid development of the city as an industrial center of Bulgaria and second  IT&BPO destination. According to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute, Plovdiv has attracted FDI worth nearly 2 billion euro in 2020.

In the last two years, the city has marked a number of significant investments, such as the announcement of a new production base of the Czech medical equipment manufacturer BTL Industries for EUR 10 million; new factory for high quality nitrile medical gloves for EUR 5 million of the local PPS Manufacturing; and Maxcom’s partnership with the Austrian giant Pierer Group, with an investment of over EUR 30 million for a new e-bike factory, which will open 1,000 new jobs in the city.

The specialized print edition “fDi Intelligence” reaches over 15,000 subscribed corporate and cross-border investment professionals worldwide, as well as thousands of users online, which gives Plovdiv and the region the unique opportunity to stand out as a top destination for business investment, supported by high international prestige.
