In recent years, Plovdiv has transformed into an attraction point for high-tech manufacturers that have contributed to the accumulation of know-how in the ecosystem and the creation of a friendly business climate for R&D. Well-established companies in the region are investing not only in expanding their production activities, but also in starting new R&D units or transferring existing ones from abroad.
An example of the flourishing scientific community in Plovdiv is first of its kind for Bulgaria ‘International Research Center for Excellence in Biology and Biotechnology – PlantaSYST’ – a project worth EUR 30 million, funded by the Horizon Program in partnership with the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology and The University of Potsdam.
