The turnover in the ICT industry in Bulgaria totals more than 10 billion BGN levs in 2016, shows the preliminary data
The turnover in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry in Bulgaria exceeds 10 billion levs in 2016, according to the preliminary data from CBN Pannoff, Stoytcheff & Co. This was announced by Ludmil Stoytchev, managing partner of the company, on the air of Bloomberg TV Bulgaria.
According to Stoytchev, ICT companies in Bulgaria are already over 14 000, the startups each year are several hundred and “the mortality” in the sector is very low.
“The companies operate in six distinct, independent segments according to the European business classifier and are present in 23 sectors. Therefore this information can not be easily retrieved from the Eurostat or the national statistics. The names of the companies, the businesses, must be known,” the expert explained.
According to him, 70 000 people are employed in the industry, and if we add the freelance professionals to them, the total number will reach 100 000 people.
“According to our data, the average gross monthly salary for the ICT industry for 2015 is 35 600 BGN levs per year, with 60 000 jobs being surveyed in 900 companies, which gives us the 15th place in the EU”, said Ludmil Stoytchev.
The slow digitization of Bulgaria puts at risk the competitiveness of our economy, although the ICT industry is doing great in general, added Stoytchev.
According to him there are segments that “stagnate” and there are segments that are developing very quickly.
