The Minister of Innovation and Growth, Daniel Lоrer, presented a certificate for Priority Investment to Intuitive Surgical under the Investment Promotion Act (IPI).
The American company manufactures equipment for robotic surgery – with one of their most famous products being the Da Vinci Surgical Robot. They will invest BGN 84 million in the construction of a production base in Parvomai, Plovdiv Region. Over 100 new jobs will initially be created in the first steps of the investment project. The new base will be used for assembly, micro-optics, cable assemblies, laser welding and micro-soldering.
Intuitive Surgical is planning an expansion in Bulgaria in order to strengthen its presence in Europe. The new facility will increase the production capacity of 3D endoscopes used globally in Intuitive’s Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System, which until now have been manufactured in Germany. At the beginning of 2022, the Bulgarian company “Intuitive Surgical Bulgaria” EOOD was registered – it is 100% owned by the Swiss company, and will implement the investment project.
Lorer pointed out that this is yet another example of Bulgaria’s ability to attract international high-tech manufacturers.
