In recent years, Plovdiv has transformed its industrial profile and attracts more and more high-tech companies with high added value. This type of manufacturing and the accumulation of know-how in the ecosystem has also contributed to the creation of a friendly business climate for R&D.
Well-established companies in the region are beginning to invest not only in expanding their production activities, but also in starting new R&D units or transferring existing ones from abroad.
One of the most prominent examples is the leading Belgian company Televic, developer and manufacturer of high-tech communication systems for the medical, transport and education sectors. The company operates an R&D center in Plovdiv with focus on developing software for its related products.
Another example of the flourishing scientific community in Plovdiv is first of its kind for Bulgaria ‘International Research Center for Excellence in Biology and Biotechnology – PlantaSYST’ – a project worth 30 million, funded by the Horizon Program in partnership with the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology and The University of Potsdam.
