Plovdiv’s businesses growing despite the domino of crises

In 2022, we saw an upswing in various manufacturing sectors and real investments, Bulgarian and foreign, for millions of euro in Plovdiv and the region. Undoubtedly, some of them are due to European funds received under operational programs, credits, reinvestments, as well as funds under the Investment Promotion Act.

The manufacturer of optical equipment Optix AD – Panagyurishte, made an investment in Plovdiv for 10 million.

At the beginning of this year, the company opened its production and development center in Plovdiv, opening 100 new jobs. That is why it is no coincidence that a few days ago they received an award from the Employment Agency in the category “Employer with a significant contribution to the provision of employment on the regional labor market”.

Maxcom became the winner in the manufacturing sector in the Forbes Business Awards 2022 competition.

The company put Plovdiv on the European map with its innovative e-bikes. The company became a partner with the Austian motorcycle manufacturer Rierer Group. The joint Bulgarian-Austrian company Pierer & Maxcom Mobility Ltd., registered in Plovdiv, is building a factory for electric bicycles in the Trakia Economic Zone, and the investment is in the range of BGN 120 million. Moreover, the owner of Maxcom Maxim Mitkov plans to build an apartment building next to the new plant that will house 1,000 workers, who are yet to be hired from the surrounding towns.

Schneider Electric Bulgaria made an investment of over 60 million euros

The funds have been invested in expanding the Smart Factory by 3,000 square meters and increasing production capacity. This will create more than 100 new jobs, bringing the current total to nearly 1,000.

Tourism

One of the sectors that got hit by Covid the hardest is already out of resuscitation and catching up to its pre-pandemic indicators. According to the latest data of the Regional Statistical Bureau – South, the income from overnight stays in the Plovdiv region in October 2022 reached BGN 7.4 million, which is an increase of 70.4% compared to the same month a year earlier. Proof of the rise of tourism in Plovdiv is the fourth place awarded to our city in the European Best Destinations 2022 ranking. Tourists from over 180 countries awarded Plovdiv a prize in the subcategories for “Best Cultural Destination in Europe 2022”, “Most Romantic Destinations in Europe”, as well as in the category “Best Wine Destinations in Europe”.

We are sending a difficult year, mostly because of the fuel crisis, increased energy, the growth of raw and other materials. This reflects a small drop in production, but a rise in BGN due to inflation … Despite the difficulties, we remained an export-oriented company and managed to enrich our portfolio with a new assortment. Our dairy products are sold successfully both on the European market and in the Arab world. Especially durable meat products are extremely sought after in England and the Balkans, where they prefer the traditional Bulgarian taste.

We are sending off a very good year, better than the previous two when the COVID pandemic was in full force. We even managed to quickly overcome the problems that arose because of the war in Ukraine. At first, we had difficulties with the delivery of our products to our company store in Kyiv, but gradually the transport was regulated, accordingly, and the loading became rhythmic. In financial terms, we end the year with a 15-20% growth in sales revenue in the country and abroad. We continued to seek and establish ourselves in new international markets. One of our big successes this year is that we entered the Qatar market. We established ourselves very well there with our face paints and makeup, which fans of various teams painted en masse in the FIFA World Cup, which ended a few days ago. With our other products, we won Hungary as a new destination. We maintain our previous exports to almost all of Europe, as well as to 4 more continents. In 2023, we will continue to uphold our work principles and try to keep up the pace.
