Amer Sports, which produces brands such as Atomic and Salomon, will open a second factory to further expand its market presence. At the moment, Amer Sports covers about 30% of the world’s ski production.
The news about the second factory of the company, whose direct shareholder is the Austrian Amer Sports Holding, was announced by the Manager Ivaylo Petrov at an event of Advantage Austria.
It is expected that the factory will start operating this year. According to Petrov, this will turn Bulgaria into a major player in ski production.
Even at the moment the country is traditionally at the forefront of the sector thanks to the factory in Chepelare – the former “Pamporovo Ski”. According to Petrov, this is the location with highest ski production rate in the world.
The Bulgarian factory was bought by the Finnish Amer Sports in 2008, but for many years before that it had a partnership with the Austrian Atomic, which has been part of the group since 1994. After the change of ownership, production was significantly modernized and expanded. Currently, the factory employs about 760 people.
