In the first quarter of 2021, the local administrations issued permits for the construction of – 1,546 residential buildings with 8,775 dwellings in them and 1,027,989 sq.m. total built-up area; 28 administrative buildings/offices with 93,208 sq.m total built-up area; and 1,117 other buildings with 580,046 sq.m. total built-up area, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Compared to the previous quarter, the permits issued for construction of residential buildings increased by 6.5%, but the dwellings in them decreased by 10.3%, as well as their total built-up area – by 10.0%. The number of permits issued for construction of administrative and other types of buildings increased by 100.0 and 11.1%, respectively. At the same time, the total built-up area of administrative buildings more than doubled, and that of other buildings has increased by 12.5%.
Compared to the first quarter of 2020, the issued permits for construction of new residential buildings increased by 14.4%, the dwellings in them – by 38.9%, and their total built-up area – by 26.1%. The permits issued for construction of administrative buildings increased with 27.3% and their built-up area with 45.2%. The issued permits for construction of other buildings increased by 26.5%, as well as their total built-up area – by 22.8%.
The largest number of permits for construction of new residential buildings were issued in the districts of Sofia (capital) – 229, Plovdiv – 217, Burgas – 145, Varna – 134, and Sofia – 125. The largest number of new housing will begin construction in the districts of Sofia. (capital) – 2,920, Varna – 1,822, Plovdiv – 1,780, Stara Zagora – 459, and Burgas – 440.
In the first quarter of 2021 began the construction of 998 residential buildings with 5 297 dwellings in them and a total built-up area of 660 335 sq.m. Additionally, 7 administrative buildings/offices with 4 054 sq.m. total area and 576 other buildings with 347 418 sq.m. total area, are under construction.
